Enhanced Recovery

This is about improving patient outcomes and speeding up a patient's recovery after surgery. It focuses on making sure that patients are active participants in their own recovery process. It also aims to ensure that patients always receive evidence based care at the right time.

See the NHS Institute’s Enhanced Recovery Programme and the Department of Health’s Enhanced Recovery website and its master class webcast series of presentations covering the principles and benefits of ER as well as clinical implementation.

Also see NHS Improvement’s Enhanced Recovery site and case studies on using the enhanced recovery in:
anaesthetics
breast surgery
colorectal surgery
gynaecology
musculoskeletal services
urology
other specialities
